Minnis Bay KFL - Sunday 10th January - POSTPONED
Robbie has just sent me a text. Minnis has been postponed because the snow has presented dangerous conditions on the course. I will inform you of new date once confirmed.
Hi all, I hope you are all had an enjoyable Christmas and New Year Break. It is a nuisance at the moment with snow & ice on roads and footways. I implore all of you to take great care in these treacherous conditions. It doesn’t matter if you miss a few days training – better to be safe than sorry.
CLUB CLOSED
Just been informed by the Hockey Club that James will not be able to open the bar tonight. I am also well and truly snowed in. I therefore suggest that we don't meet this evening.
Sorry about that.
Oxleas Wood eventually goes ahead despite frosty conditions
Following a postponement in December, 350 runners took to the frosty slopes of Oxleas Wood on Sunday.
Conditions were actually very good despite a few runners bringing back parts of the course. Yes there were some finishers proudly showing off cuts, grazes, bruises, mud smears and dirty kit – amazingly everyone had a smile on their face with the comment ‘that was proper cross-country’ – what a mad lot we are!!
Well done to the 27 Harriers who turned up – we were proud of all of you. Once again we were the third largest team on the park – brilliant!
To the race itself, for the men Tim Erskine led us home followed by Mike Murdoch and Richard Sears. For the ladies, Penny Holden was first followed by Sharon Barnett and Julie Stoppani.
Team wise, the ladies finished 6th, the men 12th and in the combined event we were 10th. In the league with three races to go, the ladies are 6th, the men 12th and in the combined we are 9th. Remember that is out of a total of 18 teams.
Individually in the men’s league positions out of 300 who qualify are: - Tim Erskine 21st, Paul Barton 48th & Yann Borges 50th. For the ladies out of the 140 who qualify are: - Penny Holden 15th, Sharon Barnett 31st & Julie Stoppani 34th.
Many members have increased their percentage rating since the beginning of the season with Karena Norton doubling her rating from 13% to 26% - good to see her coming back.
Well done to everyone, the club is proud of you.

Awards for 2008 & Awards Evening
It’s getting near that time when we will need to make nominations for male/female runner of the year and service to the club.
Nomination slips will be available from tonight.
I would also like your views on what format you would like the evening to be i.e. sat down meal or a buffet. Could you let me or the social girls know.
New Members
With the increase in membership, I have the pleasure most weeks of introducing new members to the club. One of the difficulties is finding someone for them to run with as quite often they are not sure of their pace or how far they can run. It has been suggested that perhaps we could set up a group of volunteers who are prepared to take it turns to look after the new members for the first couple of weeks.
The ten who have volunteered so far are: -
Di Wright
Peter Foxall
Matt Fraser
Graham Pearson
Russell Morling
Sharon Barnett
Mathew Barnett
Rosie McMahon
Alan Probert
Sarah Brenton
If I have missed anyone off please let me know or if anyone else would like to volunteer, again please let me know. Many thanks.
I think come the beginning of this year we will have an intake of prospective new members.

Wednesday’s Route
With the impending forecast and the present condition of the footways I think we should abandon tomorrow’s route. I will open up as usual providing I can get there. If you still wish to run then I suggest a trot round South Park at the back – at least it will be on snow covered grass. Remember however you will be running as usual at your own risk.
Don't forget the bar will be open so come along for a chat & drink.
A passing thought
A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water. ~Carl Reiner
Please take care, be safe and see you later.
