Hi everyone, I do hope you are all having a great week.
Grand Prix Standings – Beginning of a New Season
The league standings have just been published for the new season after the first race at Dartford.
Team wise, the men are in 3rd position out of 25 teams behind Paddock Wood and Tun Wells Harriers. The ladies are in 2nd position out of 20 teams behind Dulwich AC.
Individually, for the men, positions out of the leading 100 are:-
13 CHALKLEN Steve
21 FORREST Ian
25 ERSKINE Tim
27 BARTON Paul
53 MURDOCK Michael
56 BOND Jon
57 PEARSON Lee
62 GURR Lyndon
For the Vet 40, Paul Barton is 4th, Mike Mike Murdoch 15th and Lee Pearson18th out of 20.
Individually, for the ladies, positions out of the leading 50 are:-
4 HAWKINS Sharon
17 HOLDEN Penny
24 BARNETT Sharon
31 STOPPANI Julie
For the Vet 35, Sharon Barnett is 10th out of 10. For the Vet 45 Sharon Hawkins is 2nd and Julie Stoppani 7th out of 10.
Note: - The number of runners scoring in each league will change as more races are staged and different runners take part.
The next event is the Thanet 20 on the 7th March.
Canterbury 10
There was a good sprinkling of harriers at the Canterbury 10 on Sunday. This popular event tends to alternate with the Dartford 10 for our Club Championship depending on which is a County or Grand Prix event.
For the men according to the results, Martyn Earl was the first harrier home followed by David Keeling, John Brown and Derek Evenden. They were placed 19th out of 19 teams.
For the ladies according to the results, Sharon Hawkins was first harrier home followed by Hannah Milford and Tim Erskine. Yes, Tim was registered as a lady. I hope he wore suitable attire for the occasion!! Anyway, he helped the ladies to healthy 6th position out of 16 teams.
Don’t worry, if Tim had run in the correct gender it would not have made much of a difference to the results, the men would have remained the same and the ladies would have dropped to about 8th.
Remaining KFL Races
The remaining KFL X-C races will be at Sevenoaks on the 21st February and a final return to Swanley on the 14th March where the course will be changed to avoid repeating the route back in October. There will be no relay this year as it is important that we get 7 races in to complete the competition.
Awards for 2009 & Awards Evening
It’s getting near that time when we will need to make nominations for male/female runner of the year and service to the club.
Nomination slips will be available from tonight, however if you are unable to get to the club below is a voting slip. You can either copy or fill in or let Paula or myself know.

AWARDS FOR 2009 - VOTING SLIP
Each year we make awards to club members who have made an achievement during the previous calendar year. There are three awards for which you as club members can nominate someone to receive. The runner of the year (male and female) can be for either running achievement or service to the club. The Dennis Wilcox Plate is specific for service to the club. Please make your choice and do feel free to discuss with other club members or ask committee members if you want advice or information on previous winners etc.

Female runner of the year…………………………………………………………………………………
Service to the Club (Dennis Wilcox Plate)………………………………………………………………

I would also like your views on what format you would like the evening to be i.e. sat down meal or a buffet. Could you let me or the social girls know.
London Marathon Coach 2010
Bob is taking names for the coach, so if you are running then please put your name down on the list on a Wednesday evening or visit the message board. We have an 83 seat coach and we have about 6 places left, so places are filling up fast. I expect you have seen the message board from Bob to say that we now have enough marshals.
New Members
With the increase in membership, I have the pleasure most weeks of introducing new members to the club. One of the difficulties is finding someone for them to run with as quite often they are not sure of their pace or how far they can run. It has been suggested that perhaps we could set up a group of volunteers who are prepared to take it turns to look after the new members for the first couple of weeks.
The ten who have volunteered so far are: -
Di Wright
Peter Foxall
Matt Fraser
Graham Pearson
Russell Morling
Sharon Barnett
Mathew Barnett
Rosie McMahon
Alan Probert
Sarah Brenton
If I have missed anyone off please let me know or if anyone else would like to volunteer, again please let me know. Many thanks.

Wednesday’s Route
Tonight it’s the figure of eight course, so if after the first part you have had enough then you can stop at the clubhouse. Alternatively you can just do the second part and watch the leaders head towards you on your way back.
Prison – Lancet Lane
Turn right along Armstrong Road to the traffic lights and turn left to run down the Loose Road to Barton Road and turn right (note this is different from what is written on the back of the maps, but is a safer route as it avoids the narrow footway down Upper Stone Street). Follow the road round until it becomes Hastings Road and comes out into Moat Rd. Turn left then right into Watt Tyler Way, cross over Ashford Rd and run up the Sittingbourne Rd. At the traffic lights with Holland Rd turn left, run along Holland Rd, through to Well Rd, Lower Boxley Rd to circle the perimeter of the prison. Run past County Hall and continue down the Week St.
At the High St. turn right down past the Town Hall and go left into Mill St. Cross over Bishops Way and run up College Rd, Hayle Rd, Sheals Cresent and out onto the Loose Rd. Turn right up the Loose Rd, past Armstrong Rd, past the Wheatsheaf, the Swan and then take the first turning on your right down Anglesey Ave. Go first left still along Anglesey Ave and at the end turn left up Lancet Lane. At the top turn left to come back down the Loose Road and turn left back into Armstrong Road.
6 ½ miles
Prison
At Armstrong Road turn right to go back to the clubhouse.
4 miles
