Hello everyone.
Rosie McMahon
I expect by now many of you have received the sad news of the passing away of Rosie McMahon through the message board, via email or word of mouth.
I understand from an article in the Lancashire Evening Post that she was in the front passenger seat in her car when it was involved in a head-on smash with another vehicle in Lea Lane, Lea Town near Preston. The accident happened at around 8.15pm on Friday, January 29. She suffered serious head injuries in the crash and was rendered unconscious. Her life support machine was turned off at the Royal Preston Hospital at 7.40pm on Sunday with her family by her side
I had the great honour of introducing Rosie to the club on the evening of the 5th November 2008. I believe she had come along to the club after finding out about us from the Sweatshop running evenings.
She was a lovely lady who was very friendly and had a wonderful smile. She enjoyed running with us and was always looking for ways to try and improve. I watched her with admiration when she toiled away on the speed sessions behind the club house in South Park on a Thursday evening last summer. Sometimes she was the last one to finish a routine but it was always to a chorus of ‘Well done Rosie’. There was always a grin to greet us at the end between two brightly coloured cheeks glowing from her efforts. I particularly liked the way she was willing to give everything a try and I understand there were so many things she wanted to do.
I remember before Christmas she had bought herself a pair of cross-country spikes and was looking forward to having a go at one of our KFL series. It would have been nice to have been at the finish to cheer her across the line on to her first event.
I liked the way she supported the club and its values for fun and friendliness. She always asked why we did things the way we did and made sure she aired her views on particular issues. She always read Chairchat and particularly enjoyed the ‘passing thought’ each week. She will be sadly missed by all. The club has lost a much valued member, a wonderful person and a very lovely lady.
A card will be made available on Wednesday evening for everyone to sign and we will send it to Shane her husband. I know you will all join me in sending out our heartfelt condolences to Shane and her family to reassure them that our thoughts and prayers are with them at this very difficult time.
Please look at the message board regarding Rosie and read all the lovely comments and thoughts that have been put on there. You may like to add your own thoughts if you wish.
Remaining KFL Races
The remaining KFL X-C races will be at Sevenoaks on the 21st February and a final return to Swanley on the 14th March where the course will be changed to avoid repeating the route back in October. There will be no relay this year as it is important that we get 7 races in to complete the competition.
Awards for 2009 & Awards Evening
It’s getting near that time when we will need to make nominations for male/female runner of the year and service to the club.
Nomination slips will be available from tonight, however if you are unable to get to the club below is a voting slip. You can either copy or fill in or let Paula or myself know.

AWARDS FOR 2009 - VOTING SLIP
Each year we make awards to club members who have made an achievement during the previous calendar year. There are three awards for which you as club members can nominate someone to receive. The runner of the year (male and female) can be for either running achievement or service to the club. The Dennis Wilcox Plate is specific for service to the club. Please make your choice and do feel free to discuss with other club members or ask committee members if you want advice or information on previous winners etc.
Male runner of the year……………………………………………………………………………………
Female runner of the year…………………………………………………………………………………
Service to the Club (Dennis Wilcox Plate)………………………………………………………………
....................................................................................................................... ..............................
I would also like your views on what format you would like the evening to be i.e. sat down meal or a buffet. Could you let me or the social girls know.
London Marathon Coach 2010
Bob is taking names for the coach, so if you are running then please put your name down on the list on a Wednesday evening or visit the message board. We have an 83 seat coach and we have about 4 places left, so places are filling up fast. I expect you have seen the message board from Bob to say that we now have enough marshals.
New Members
With the increase in membership, I have the pleasure most weeks of introducing new members to the club. One of the difficulties is finding someone for them to run with as quite often they are not sure of their pace or how far they can run. It has been suggested that perhaps we could set up a group of volunteers who are prepared to take it turns to look after the new members for the first couple of weeks.
The ten who have volunteered so far are: -
Di Wright
Peter Foxall
Matt Fraser
Graham Pearson
Russell Morling
Sharon Barnett
Mathew Barnett
Alan Probert
Sarah Brenton
If I have missed anyone off please let me know or if anyone else would like to volunteer, again please let me know. Many thanks.

Continue up the Loose Rd past the Swan, past the primary school and down into the dip over Loose Valley bridge (it may be preferable to cross over the road after the bridge to avoid running through the wooded area that is unlit). Continue up Linton Road to the Linton Crossroads traffic lights and turn right along Heath Road to Coxheath.
In the centre of the village past the Spice Lounge turn right at the cross roads down Stockett Lane by the Bird in Hand PH. Continue down Stockett Lane past the school and take the first turning on your right along Westway to the junction with Park Way and turn left. Continue along Park Way till you come to the junction with Heath Road and turn left to run along back to the traffic lights atLinton Crossroads.
Retrace your route back to the centre down Linton Road, Loose Road and Armstrong Road

A Thought
In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. ~Albert Schweitzer
(I think Rosie was one of those people who rekindled the inner spirit in many of us)
Take care all of you, be safe and I look forward to seeing you later.
