Hello everyone.
Record Turn Out at Ashford
An apology for not publishing this last week but there was a more urgent matter to mention.
Ashford on Sunday 7th February saw a record turnout for the club championship with 38 harriers venturing round the course. There were some excellent performances with a few pb’s. The men were led home by Jon Bond followed by Paul Barton, David Thornby and Mike Murdoch.
The ladies were led home by Sharon Hawkins followed by Penny Holden, Paula Stockton
and Julie Stoppani.
Well done everyone, it must have looked good seeing all the Harriers out there.
Sidcup 10
On Sunday there were 389 runners for the race this year. Remember last year this was one of our club championships. It’s a pretty uninspiring course consisting of 3 laps round a housing estate, I have done it a few times now and it doesn’t get any better.
Nine Harriers took part and with Steve Chalklen leading us home in 32nd place. He was supported by Martin Earl 119th, Stewart Wing 193rd and John Brown 334th. For the ladies Sharon Hawkins led us home in 52nd, supported by Lizzie Cooper 192nd, Joanne Nicholson 317th and Julie Wing 378th.
Well done everyone, not the most interesting of courses.
Rosie
Do read the message board regarding the arrangements for Rosie’s funeral on Thursday. There will be eight representatives from the club attending the service at Manchester cemetery.
Shane has asked that there are no flowers but that we make a donation to the chosen charity BamakoBampots to provide two fully functional Landrover Ambulances to operate as field clinics in a remote area of Mali.
If you haven’t signed the card I will bring it along again tomorrow night with some spare continuation sheets.
As is usual in these matters, I am writing a letter to her husband Shane on behalf of the club and will include this with the card. Please feel free to ask me if you wish to see a copy.
Remaining KFL Races – Sevenoaks
There is a KFL X-C race at Sevenoaks on Sunday 21st February. Jan & I will not be there but I will make arrangements for someone to look after you. We usually meet in the café at the leisure centre.
For the final event there is a final return to Swanley on the 14th March where the course will be changed to avoid repeating the route back in October. There will be no relay this year as it is important that we get 7 races in to complete the competition.
Awards for 2009 & Awards Evening
Tonight is the last night for making nominations for awards for male/female runner of the year and service to the club.
Nomination slips will be available tonight, however if you are unable to get to the club below is a voting slip. You can either copy or fill in or let myself know at david@aspian.globalnet.co.uk

AWARDS FOR 2009 - VOTING SLIP
Each year we make awards to club members who have made an achievement during the previous calendar year. There are three awards for which you as club members can nominate someone to receive. The runner of the year (male and female) can be for either running achievement or service to the club. The Dennis Wilcox Plate is specific for service to the club. Please make your choice and do feel free to discuss with other club members or ask committee members if you want advice or information on previous winners etc.

I would also like your views on what format you would like the evening to be i.e. sat down meal or a buffet. Could you let me or the social girls know.
London Marathon Coach 2010
I expect you have all seen the message on the board from Bob that the coach is now full.
New Members
With the increase in membership, I have the pleasure most weeks of introducing new members to the club. One of the difficulties is finding someone for them to run with as quite often they are not sure of their pace or how far they can run. It has been suggested that perhaps we could set up a group of volunteers who are prepared to take it turns to look after the new members for the first couple of weeks.
The ten who have volunteered so far are: -
Di Wright
Peter Foxall
Matt Fraser
Graham Pearson
Russell Morling
Sharon Barnett
Mathew Barnett
Alan Probert
Sarah Brenton
If I have missed anyone off please let me know or if anyone else would like to volunteer, again please let me know. Many thanks.

A passing thought
Rosie liked the passing thoughts and as I was looking at the tributes to her, the one characteristic that came out was her wonderful smile.
I found this quote regarding smiles:-
A smile costs nothing but gives much. It enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give. It takes but a moment, but the memory of it sometimes lasts forever. None is so rich or mighty that he cannot get along without it and none is so poor that he cannot be made rich by it. Yet a smile cannot be bought, begged, borrowed, or stolen, for it is something that is of no value to anyone until it is given away. Some people are too tired to give you a smile. Give them one of yours, as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give. ~Author Unknown
Take care all of you, be safe and I look forward to seeing you later.
David
