Hello everyone.
It’s Silver Ladies at Thanet 20
There was turn–out of 33 harriers at the Thanet 20 on Sunday, 17 men and 16 ladies. The race was generally well attended as it provides a good testing ground for the London marathon. The weather was sunny except there was a cold North Easterly wind. This could have explained the reason why a few runners fell over with bruised ribs and black eyes toward the end of the race as it may have impaired concentration.
The great news is that ladies won the silver medal in the County Championship and therefore improved their position in the Grand Prix. They were led home by Sharon Hawkins who was 1st overall, the Kent Gold Champ and the Gold Vet 45 – her quote was “I clinked my way home!!” She was well supported by Sharon Barnett (21st), Penny Holden (23rd) and Julie Stoppani (25th). The girls also picked up 3rd prize in the open race. Excellent running ladies!!
The men were led home by Paul Barton (23rd), Michael Murdoch (44th), Lyndon Gurr (55th) and Martyn Earl (71st). I am not aware that they picked up any prizes.
Well done everyone, you all ran well in not the easiest of conditions on a tough course.
Remaining KFL Race
This Sunday is the final event of the KFL for 2009/1010. We return to Swanley where the season started back in November but the course will be changed to avoid repeating it. There will be no relay this year as it is important that we get 7 races in to complete the competition. However, as with the relay event there will be free food afterwards at pre-planned social event in the nearby Alexandra suite.
May be for the final event we can get an even larger turn-out than before and if you have never done a KFL XC, now is your chance because this is an easy course.
Jan & I will be at the cafe from 10.00 am to greet you and check you in.
Running Fitness Magazine ‘Up Front’ – Club Watch Feature – Photo Shot
I am in the process of preparing an article for the Running Fitness Magazine which has a feature that profiles interesting running clubs around the country. I will mention about the history of the club, races we organise and talk about some inspiring runners. I expect you will have all seen the message from Bob a few weeks ago calling for photos of runners. One of the photos we would like to do is a collective shot of club members in their new livery and we would like to do this on the evening of the 24th March. So could as many of you as possible please turn up that evening in your club kit.
London Marathon Coach 2010
I expect you have all seen the message on the board from Bob that the coach is now full. Bob would now like to collect the fare of £8 each.
Curry Evening – Sunday April 11th
Yes we haven’t had one of these for a while so we are booking the Mughal Dynasty on Sunday evening the 11th April at 7.00pm. It will be an excellent way to recover after the Paddock Wood Half Marathon earlier in the day. We will assemble beforehand in the White Horse in London Road from 6.00pm.
There will be a list at the club for you to include your name on or alternatively please contact either Paula or myself.
Accompanying Runners for Prospective New Members
With the increase in membership, I have the pleasure most weeks of introducing prospective new members to the club. One of the difficulties is finding someone for them to run with as quite often they are not sure of their pace or how far they can run. It has been suggested that perhaps we could set up a group of volunteers who are prepared to take it turns to look after the new members for the first couple of weeks.
The ten who have volunteered so far are: -
Di Wright
Peter Foxall
Matt Fraser
Graham Pearson
Russell Morling
Sharon Barnett
Mathew Barnett
Alan Probert
Sarah Brenton
If I have missed anyone off please let me know or if anyone else would like to volunteer, again please let me know. Many thanks.
