Hi Kevin,
Can you recommend any good beginners training programmes, particularly ones that are flexible about where and when to train?
I think lots of people at Harriers are keen to add in bike and swim training, but can't commit to the same days every week. So having an outline of a training programme would probably help.
Thanks,
Hannah

Good place to look is the 220 triathlon magazine comes out once a month can get from w.h.smiths.
~The 1st thing you need to look at is how much time do you have to train each week ?
~Next thing is then to is look at you swim and cycling and work out wich one of them you need to work on the most!
~The best thing to try and do is 3 swims 3 bikes 3 runs
The swim your looking to do 1. tech work , drills , kicking , single arm work 2. Speed work so say 10 x 50m on 1:20min 3. Distance sets say 1000m or do 5 x 200m on 4mins
The bike looking to do 1. Turbo / spinning class use this for some power output efferts ( max efferts ) 2 Base ride were your covering the distance your racing so for a sprint 20km 3. Brick sets these are great its were you run off the bike
The run looking to do 1. Run with the club club nights 2. speed sets treadmill / running track 3. Brick sets these are great its were you run off the bike
all the best

Keep meaning to do the test but never get round to it.
Kevin, I assume that you have to wear a wetsuit for the leybourne swims?. If so, are these available for hire or do we have to have our own. If I ever do anything other than sprint tris then I'll buy one but would like to try some ideally so that I know what I should be buying.
Ta, Dave

hi dave yes you should really wear a wetsuit as the cold can get to you unless you have done open water for a few years, and for the swim test you must wear a suit, larst year they dis have a few suits for use but 90% of the time people have there own as a triathlon wetsuit realy needs to fit you well so that you dont get any drag in the swim etc i am hopen with my sponsor www.zone3 to be getting some suits for people to test out and try for the summer fingers x for that

Hi,
I'm new to the maidstone area and I'm intersted in attempting a triathlon. From what I can see training sessions with the tri-club here, aren't really up and running in earnest just yet. I know Daivd Lloyd does a tri session on saturdays but first off I don't like gyms much prefer to be in the great outdoors getting fresh air, and secondly training once a week is not near enough!!! So if anyone can advise me on how to get in contact with triathletes here in maidstone I'd appreciate that. On the running side of things I've joined the sweatshop community and the maidstone harriers but ideally I'd like to meet like minded triathletes and take part in group brick training( I think it's called that!!).
Thanks Lisa
