Got places for Tonbridge (a regular for me) and finally got a place for Sevenoaks after many years of missing out. I need to get some open water experience before doing anything more exotic (or longer).

In 2012 we have 20 guaranteed places in the Brighton marathon April 15th, 4 places in the London marathon in April and 18 places in the London 10k July 15th. The London 10k route will follow part of the Olympic course and happens just days before the official opening ceremony.

There are several good bike events over the next few months. Two that I would recommend are: Pilgrims Hospices Cycle Challenge - 5th MayChoice of 45 mile loops (Thanet-Canterbury or Ashford-Canterbury) or 75 mile loop (between the 3 hospices). You can choose where you start and finish. The courses are well marked and marshalled, and there is free tea, homemade cake, flapjacks, fruit, etc, at each of the hospices. I will be doing the Thanet-Canterbury loop again. It is £25 to enter. If you want more details, please talk to me or visit the website www.pilgrimscyclechallenge.orgGreat Kent Ride - 30th JuneOption of a 60 mile loop or a 35 mile loop, entry fee £17.50. The long loop is Ashford-Newchurch-Lydd-Rye-Tenterden-High Halden-Ashford. The first half is downhill or flat, mostly around the Romney Marsh. The second half is more undulating. I will be doing the 60 mile route. www.bike-events.com/Ride.aspx?id=381
