Has a decision been made on what route we will be running tonight, I guess we are now into the summer listing.
Thanks

Yes, Cate Slade is now doing the weekly routes, and tonight we will be doing the following:
Down through town via Barton Road and St Phillips Avenue/Hastings Road, turning right into Mote Road and following the footpath through Mote Park past Mote House, before exiting the park at Willington Street. Across Willington Street to follow the old Spot Lane to Church Road, then following a footpath to Otham. At Otham joining Stoneacre Lane to go through the buildings, before following a footpath back to Otham and then through woods past Gore Court to join a footpath immediately adjacent to White Horse Lane which joins Woolley Road, from where the run will end via Willington Street, Northumberland Road, Sutton Road, Loose Road and South Park.
The full run is approximately 7 miles, and the shorter run, which returns to Willington Street via a footpath from Church Road (St Nicholas’ Church) and joins the main run at Northumberland Road, is approximately 5 miles.
Cate will bring along maps with full written instructions tonight.

Just when you thought we had run it for the last time, Willington Street seems to get a few too many mentions for comfort.
Paul, are you sure that's seven miles, or is it the traditional "six and a bit"?

The good news is that we only go across Willington Street to start with, then the second section should be slightly downhill. The steep bits are optional :-)
As for the distance - we'll find out later............

Cate has supplied me with the details of tonight's run - there will be maps available.
Maidstone Harriers Summer Run – 12th May 2010
Greensand Way via The Quarries
Main run: approximately 7 miles
Turn right out of the hockey club. Turn right into South Park, and continue until Loose Road. At the Wheatsheaf take the left fork (Sutton Road), then the immediate right onto Pheasant Lane. Take the first footpath (way marked) on the left which follows the wall of the cemetery. Follow the footpath ahead past New Line Learning on footpath between trees and a hedge. At the footpath crossroads, turn left. At the end of the footpath, continue ahead on the road leaving the black metal fence on your left.
Take the first footpath on the right (way marked, at telegraph pole) and continue across field. At the end of the footpath go through the gap in the hedge and turn left onto the road. Follow the road ahead until you reach the cross roads (immediately after the 30 mph signs) and turn left (signposted Chart Sutton, Langley).
START OF SHORT RUN – the short run cuts out the furthest loop of the run. Turn right at cross roads signposted Boughton Green and Loose. Continue as below. Approximately 5.5 miles
At the C0ck PH, cross Heath Road and continue ahead on Park Lane. At the road sign “Back Lane” continue ahead on footpath (way marked). At the finger post, bear left and continue through the woods. Follow the main footpath continuing through the bluebell and beech woods (aahh) and then between the woods on the left and a field on the right. At footpath crossroads (signed with finger post) turn right onto the Greensand Way (great views of The Weald. If it’s not raining).
Go ahead through the kissing gate and continue ahead through field. Cross Tarmac drive and continue ahead across next field (aim for the two BIG yew trees), go through the gate and follow the sign to the church.
Turn right onto Church Lane. Take the first footpath on the right at the kissing gate and telegraph pole. At the cross roads with the Tarmac track, continue ahead on the footpath. At the end of the footpath cross Heath Road and continue ahead on Gandys Lane. At the cross roads turn left (signposted Boughton Green and Loose – if you look backwards after passing).
SHORT RUN REJOINS MAIN RUN.
Turn right onto footpath opposite “Tudor Cottage”. Cross oasthouse drive and continue ahead on footpath.
At road turn left, and continue until the T junction. Turn right at T junction and continue on this road, which becomes Boughton Lane. Follow Boughton Lane until it joins Loose Road. Turn left onto Loose Road, continue ahead at the Wheatsheaf and then return to the hockey club via South Park for a well earned pint.

Hi All,
For those of you that can recall from last year, this is the Horseshoes route.
I set out below a description of the route in which I have included the shortened route for those who wish to do it.
Horseshoes
Left along Armstrong Rd, left at r’bt up Postley Rd through to footway. Continue up footway until right-hand bend and continue straight on down to Teasaucer Hill. Run down the hill and at the bottom turn left up Bockingford Lane. At the top turn left into Stockett Lane. At the next junction turn right still up Stockett Lane and then next right into New Cut. Go along New Cut, cross over Dean Street into Forge Lane, run down Forge Lane to the junction with Vicarage Lane and turn left.
Run up Vicarage Lane until the sharp right hand bend and turn left up the footway. At the end turn right up the concrete roadway on into the track and then the footway that brings you out into Dean Street by the Horseshoes riding school and pub. Turn left taking immediate care to cross over to the right hand side of Dean St and run down to the junction with Workhouse Lane.
Turn right along Workhouse Lane, continue round the double bend to bring you out into Stockett Lane and turn right then left into Forstal Lane. Run along Forstal Lane which bends left down Well St to Loose. At the crossroads cross over Busbridge Rd into Mill St then turn right at the bottom and then left into Kirkdale. Follow Kikdale right the way through to Cripple St and turn right then left into Broadoak. Run a short way along Broadoak, turn left into Richmond Way and continue on until you come to the footway on your left that takes you across the grass area back into Postley Rd. Run down Postley Rd and then go right back along Armstrong. (Friendly route – in Loose turn right into Busbridge Rd then left and left again to come up Loose Hill. Continue into Loose Rd down to Cripple St, turn left and run down to Broadoak or continue down Loose Rd to Armstrong Rd.)
7 miles
Loose
On the main route at the next junction carry straight on into Busbridge Road down into Loose and at the crossroads turn left to join the main route.
4 miles
If when you get into Loose it is getting dark then please return via the main Loose Road
I will bring along some maps as usual for you to use.
David

Hi, just wondering whether there are 2 routes still - longer and shorter one. If people, particularly new members, don't know the area too well, it's always handy to show them the shorter route too, to give them a choice.
